So we're in Fiji.
It's currently raining so I'm going to use this opportunity to blog more. This one is not going to be in any order other than the order I remember things in.
Fiji is amazing. Just amazing. It's one of those places you can't really imagine being in because it just looks perfect. It's pretty stunning. As well as visiting a couple of beautiful islands, we have done so many activities here.
On our first island, Tavewa, we stayed at Coralview resort and it was such a lovely place to stay because we got so involved with all the staff that we felt really sad when we left. We felt like we were leaving our friends as we had stayed there for 5 nights. It was a busy few days too:
We had a massage (which was great but as I'm ticklish it was also pretty awkward for me), we went sea kayaking (Emma and Josie managed to get lost for two hours and end up on the wrong island, God knows how they did that) went snorkelling, went jet skiing (which is ridiculously fun so I have a new goal that I have to purchase a jet ski at one point in my life) tried kava with the staff (a weird powdery drink which is traditional here in Fiji, it is disgusting, tasting exactly what you would imagine a muddy puddle to taste like) as well as obviously soaking up the Fijian sun and drinking cocktails.
We even tried a bit of Fijian dancing even getting involved and performing to the whole resort in a show. Although the fire dancing and the knife throwing really showed us up, it was so funny to be part of the show. Coralview was such a friendly resort that when we had to leave it was a very sad day for us. We had all become very comfortable there and had the best week of this trip so far in my opinion.
After 5 days, we received our leaving song from Coralview (singing and dancing is huge here in Fiji) and hopped on the yasawa flyer to our next island; Mantaray Island. Although a bit more touristy than the previous resort, it was still a lovely place to stay. The food was delicious (4 course meals, win) and the staff were lovely. Of course we instantly bonded with the bar staff and the waitressing staff- food and drink being high on our priority list as always.
After doing so many activities on the other island, we relaxed more on Mantaray. Although two days were heavily affected by the weather (heavily rain one day, followed by strong winds the next day) we still managed to enjoy our stay, taking part in a lot more snorkelling here (the most amazing coral reef was so close to the shore and there were so many colours and types of fish- it was amazing. I spotted three sharks in total here, which was so cool).
We also took part in, as the name of the resort suggests, a swim with mantarays. We woke up at 6.30 and hopped in a boat and were taken to a channel where there was a surprisingly strong current. We jumped out of the boat and eventually spotted a huge mantaray swimming around, doing somersaults and flips and just doing its own thing. I think there were about 5 that morning and it was amazing how close they swam to you. At one point I let the current drag me along as I was struggling to keep up my speed and one swam right past me against the current, making it look so easy. That was such a memorable experience. I would definitely recommend doing that.
We're off to the main land today (Viti Levu) as we're on another plane in two days on our way to Asia. Mental how quickly this trip is going. We reached the halfway mark the other day so now we have less days travelling ahead of us than days we've been away. Crazy.
To summarise, Fiji is great. My favourite country so far.
So, that's that.
Bye for now xxx
