It is traditional in Martinique for the industrial clocks to strike the hour. This clock was made to record the 100th anniversary of the Volcanic eruption in nearby Mount Pelee which devastated the nearby town, and former capital of Martinique, Saint Pierre killing 30,000 people on May 8th 1902
