Today was a day of travelling from Phnom Penh to Batambang by bus. The roads were good though the journey took 6.5hours and the air con above our seats wasn't working and it appears we were the only seats with. I window curtain either! We have been in Sihanoukville for the past couple of days. It has been great just chilling. Lazy wake ups, breakfast by the beach or overlooking it from our hotel. We met a lovely boy called Jan who made me some bracelets and Rob got his arms plucked by a lady called Lin. It took hours - seriously! Using cotton she plucked pretty much every hair off his arms!!! Today we did a tour of Phnom Penh by tuk tuk. First we went to the killing fields where the Khmer Rouge in the 1970's executed thousands of Cambodians in their bid for a pure race of proletariat. It was a moving and tragic place. Since 1979 when the Khmer Rouge fled, pits of mass graves have been excavated there, uncovering approximately 89000 bodies (including 9 westerners). Today we got up at 6am (I know, I thought we were on holiday too! ;0) so we could take the boat for a tour of Chaudoc. We visited a small village where a lady was making the most amazing small coconut cakes, saw the entrance to a cemetery from 1700-2000 and the outside of a local mosque.
