Our time in Barcelona was much shorter than expected. We got up at 4AM to leave for the airport. Our shuttle was due to arrive at 5, and it is an hour + commute. Our flight was at 9 and we didn't want to cut it too close with the 5:30 bus so we took the early one. Big mistake. Of course at 5AM there's no traffic and we made it there in 45 minutes, then tried to check in unsuccessfully twice before finding our correct counter, only to find out they don't even open until 6:30 so we had to loiter for a half hour. Then Our flight ended up being delayed over three hours. A day with only 3 hours of sleep and lots of travel is very taxing. To make matters worse, we got to the train station that our hostel suggested we go to from the airport, tried to make reservations for our next train to Pamplona, and we're told we were at the wrong station. So we had to take a train to the main Sant Station in Barcelona, wait 2+ hours in the que to make a reservation, THEN ride the metro to the city center to go to our hostel. Finding our hostel wasn't too difficult, only had to ask a few people for directions, and when we got there we were pleasantly surprised. The hostel was so nice and clean and well organized and safe I couldn't have asked for better. When we checked in the guy working the desk was shocked because apparently we picked their largest room-woops! It was a 12-bed mixed room, bunk beds, but the coolest part was that our lockers were under the bottom bunk and only opened with a key card, and there was only one key card per locker so breaking in was impossible unless you have away your card. It had so many amenities, including a sun deck and full kitchen and laundry, if you're interested in a hostel in Spain hit me up I'll give you the name of this place (so inexpensive too!). We got in pretty late so we took the night easy, went to dinner (tapas yummm, right near the arc de triomf) then the tram to Sagrada Familia so I could show it to Megan (keep in mind I went to Barcelona last summer). It was neat seeing all the additions that have happened in the past year. I guess I forgot to mention on our three hour layover we met some kids going on vacation to Barcelona for the week, two boys from London about our age, and we ended up chatting basically the whole three hour wait and then we're close on the plane. We made plans to meet up for drinks later, but of course wifi never works right and we couldn't get word to each other. This didn't stop Megan and I from going anyway, so after Sagrada Familia we visited a bar the hostel suggested called Lime Bar where they brew their own gin and their specialty is Mohitos. We each enjoyed one Mohito then we headed back to the hostel. The past week must have really took a toll on us because we passed out and I wouldn't have known there were 11 other people in that room if I tried, I was out. We slept in for the first time this whole trip, then got up just in time to shower, pack up, and catch a free walking tour. The tour guide came to the hostel to pick up people for the tour, but we weren't quite ready to go yet. I told Megan to go ahead with the guide and I would finish packing up then meet them at the meeting place since I have been there before and know my way around. She was convinced I'd get lost but what do ya know I met them there just like I said I would no problems, and we enjoyed an almost 3 hour walking tour through the city we got a nice lunch that the tour guide suggested called Menú de Dia, which is a huge breakfast/brunch/lunch with two courses, a drunk, and dessert all for less than €10 (unheard of!). Well, turns out we don't like authentic Spanish food too much because our lunch was pretty gross (sad to say). It included weird seafood and other unidentifiable items. At least the wine was tasty! We then walked back to the hostel to collect our things and go to the train station to catch our train to Pamplona, but in true Carla and Megan fashion something had to go wrong on a travel day and we missed our train. We had to get another reservation that we had to wait in another long line for to then catch the next train an hour and a half later. It could be way worse though. So next stop is Pamplona and we are beyond excited to run with the bulls! Hopefully we both make it out alive! Just kidding we aren't running are you crazy! Just watching! Adios!!
