It's amazing what can go wrong and yet still go so right in the space of 24hrs. In short, between three people and the space of a day, we lost two sets of luggage and one passport, and yet with in 12 hours all were recovered and our experiences enlightened. Will spare you the finer details, but we were all agreed that the odds of three bikes and three sets of luggage all arriving through four connecting flights, and three countries in 48 hours would be a lottery.. and we were right.
That sinking feeling when the carousel stops turning.. was all too real upon arrival off our last (domestic) flight in Turin Italy. Three bikes and One bag fell two short of our desired total. The appropriate paperwork was completed complimented with an entertaining dialogue of English v Italian luggage type and colour descriptors. After much gesticulation and best on ground charade performances, the resultant outcome.. "Eh ..we no know is where you luggage.. But is black square with wheels yes? Es ok we find and call Otel es no problemo" Hmmmm..
We grabbed our Team Van (hire car) and headed for our overnight hotel where upon check in I discovered/recalled carefully placing my passport in the aeroplane seat pocket and reminding myself at flights end not to forget .. It would appear my mental capacity for reminders ceases after 28 hours of flying..
So after all due reporting processes were followed and there was not a lot more we could do 'or wear' .. we awaited the new day and any news of lost and misplaced items.
Despite the myriad of potential outcomes the luggage was found and my passport travelled by itself back from Rome to Turin airport for collection at the same time as the luggage.. Bizarrely, we left Turin for France at the same time as originally planned, but with the experience of some unplanned itinerary extras.
