This Godless Endeavor
Hey
So last time I was here, I said that we were heading to Vienna to catch a train to Prague. Well I've got a funny story for you.
We ran off and jumped onto the train to Vienna, which was quite nice, when we got there we had to ship across town on the tram system, to another station, which was in what we shall call the less desirable part of town. So we sat around in the station for about 2 hours, getting gradually tireder and tireder. When the train finally was anounced on the board, we packed up and wandered over to it.
What met our eyes was the most fantastic thing we have ever seen. A train that looked less than new. Outside it was three people all talking in Russian. The train was infact heading to Moscow, via Prague although there was no indication on the trainside notices of this. We all looked at each other and headed back to the information desk to find out if this was truely the train we wanted. When we found it was, we went to ask how much the train would cost, since it was a sleeper.
The train was going to cost 30 Euros (20 quid), and to make matters worse we would have to head through Belarus. For those of you who don't know what Belarus is like it is the last Communist country in Europe, imagine every steriotype about Russia you can think of and that is what the Country is like. It is not a place you want to end up in. Plus if we overslept on the train we'dendup in Moscow without a Visa, also something not for the fainthearted.
Needless to say we ran like the wind away from that station and back to our orriginal station. From here we decided that we would head back to Munich, again) and catch a train to Prague from there. We had 20 minutes between when the first train got in and the next train left. The Train was suposed to arrive at 11:30 but was already 25 minutes late, although we didn'tcare all that much, all we wanted was to be back in good old safe Germany as far awar from the Eastern Block as possible. The Train kept egtting gradually later and later, and I eventually inflated mz pillow and hit the floor to catch the much needed sleep i had missed te night before (I had plenty of Sex on the Beach the night before as I said).
The Train finally arrived 100 minutes late, and we all piled onto it. There were no beds so we all just got into seats. We found 3 together, however Nik and Andy got moved since they were sitting in reserved seats. I was so tired that I slept the whole journey sitting up with my head on the pillow and my hand on my valuables in my bag.
Despite leaving 100 minutes late, it arrived back just on time to catch our orriginal train to Prague, and so we legged in to get onto that. More sleeping followed, as well as some music listening for the first time this trip.
Finally we arrived in Prague at Midday and then headed to our Hostel. The hostel was basic but clean and nice, with the most important commodity for those who have been traveling for almost15 hours straight, showers.
We traveled around Prague and saw the huge clock in the town centre, as well as the Charles Bridge and the Castle on the top og the hill. I got some amazing pictures. We also looked round a museum of medievil torture impliments, because after all we are cultural people.
On a more serious note Andy and I headed to a clasical concert in a church which was very good, and really relaxing, whilst Nik headed back to sleep.
We then decided to spend all our Prague "moon money" as Andy renamed it. So we headed to a really nice Italian restaurant and had another amazing meal. What was really perfect about the whole day was the Stretch Mini we saw in the street, it perfectly complimented a city of incredable arctuecture.
So all in all, we are alive, and not in Russia.
Well Fed we are going to bed,
Cya soon Chris (Very very sleepy)
