On each floor of Te Papa, a different aspect of life in New Zealand was covered. The floor covering current flora and fauna was reminiscent of the Museum of Natural History in DC. Here, we see an angler fish. Recognize him from Finding Nemo? We couldn't believe what an exact match he was for the critter in the movie. I thought that was a caricature of the real fish, but it wasn't. This guy has a bioluminescent (that was for you, Melody) blue light on the end of a permanently attached fishing rod. Other fish think they will chomp on a worm, but instead, the angler fish gets a meal. On top of that, this guy mates when the smaller male bites the female, fuses his circulatory system with hers, and transfers sperm. He remains there forever after. Ummm...I prefer the way humans do it, thanks anyway.
