Becky Bravo's Adventures
Michelle and I embarked on a touristy type of day. We got up early so we could make the hour and a half drive to Niagara Falls and be there by 10-ish. We arrived there about 10:30am and could already tell it was going to be a hot day. We went straight to go on the Maid of the Mist Tour and did not even have to wait in line which was sweet! The boat took us by the New York Falls and the Horshoe Falls (the ones on the 'Canada side') I tried to get some sweet pics, but the mist from the falls was more like a rain storm in that water was just pouring down on us, which felt good in one respect, but made me nervous that my camera would get damaged, and also made us wonder why they even bother with those lame Disneyland-like ponchos that really do not sheild you from any wetness whatsoever.
We then saw the people in yellow ponchos walking down up close to the falls which we later found out was another tour called Cave of the Winds. We totally jumped on that and got another useless poncho (and sandals!!) and took an elevator down to walk along the decks and stairs right underneath the falls. and when I say underneath I mean the falls went from the top of the waterfall right down onto the people standing there. It was actually pretty sweet, and did feel good for such a hot and humid day. But that was definately my favorite part of the day - walking down by the falls was just so breathtaking. (and loud) but super fun!
And after that, Michelle found this AMAZING vegetarian restaurant in Buffalo (thank god for internet phones!) and it has got to be one of the best veg. meals I have ever had. The place was a locally owned funky little diner, and their prices were cheap for a ton of food!
And, Michelle being the educated and lovely person she is informed me that Susan B. Anthony lived in Rochester while she was fighting for suffrage and her house was a tourist site and we could go in and see it! So we did that on the way home from Niagara Falls. It was an educational little tour around her house, and since I studied her so much and wrote many a report on her for my women's studies / sociology classes, doing that was quite meaningful and I really enjoyed it.
The day ended with me playing on Michelle's kickball team, which was right up my alley seeing as though I play kickball every saturday. Then Michelle, Don, and I all got some ice cream and went to bed. An early start for me tomorrow as I head to Albany, NY to help Pookie (Janelle) prepare for her wedding on Saturday! Cant wait!
