Retired & Traveling
We were at sea ALL DAY AGAIN IN THE FOG. Both of us were so ready to be on land again and mostly so we would have internet! LOL It's hard being forced to unplug yourself from your phone & email. I did go down to the ship's internet café and logged on for a bit so I could get news about my mother & print our boarding passes. It ended up costing me about $25 for 20 minutes. :(( Ridiculous.
The ship wasn't offering anything that appealed to us, so we mainly read and watched tv all day, and ate, of course! That's about all there was to do! LOL
We finally began seeing land about 5:30 p.m. while we were at dinner. We sat with some really fun people--a family of 3 sisters with their dad that were from Portland, Maine and another couple that was from Chicago. They were telling me that their flight home didn't leave from Seattle until 11:00 p.m. with a connection in Chicago, so they weren't getting home until about 9:00 a.m. on Monday! Yikes, I was so glad that wasn't me!!
We met up with our tour group and scored a front row seat on the tour bus....and off we went to explore the Island of Vancouver, which is where the city of Victoria is located. It's a beautiful city--very clean and breathtaking views of the water, mountains & homes. We stopped atop a large hill and had a nice view of the surrounding area--see photos--and since it was so windy, we didn't stay out very long. Our guide told us that while Victoria enjoys a moderate climate, they do have a lot of windy days.
We made our way to the Craigdarroch Castle...it wasn't built to be a castle but it sure looks like one to me, and apparently, a lot of other people as well. We got to tour inside and it has been furnished mostly as it would've been in it's time era (which was the late 1800's). The woodwork inside was amazing, and the stones were too.
Once back on the ship, we were hungry again (since it had been at least 4 hours since we'd eaten!!) so we stopped in at the specialty pizza restaurant and filled up again. Ashley met up with some people in one of the lounges and I read...I was still awake after midnight!
