Day 59, 60 & 61
As I sit on yet another train, writing this blog, I can't help but feel like a backpacker. After waiting for a delayed train, sitting on an unmoving train for an hour (somewhat comfortably), being told to swap trains and then finding that there are no seats on the new train really showed me what it is to travel cheap. So as we sit in amongst our bags in the 3x3 baggage area that has zero light every time we go through a tunnel, we know we have a bumpy ride ahead of us. Mi scoozi!
The only plus that seems to come out of the situation is the fact that this train goes to all the way to Toulouse, where we were meant train to tomorrow. We are currenly contemplating skipping Marseilles all together and riding this train all the way through. But more on that later.
The past two days have been quite similar with little touring done. Wednesday we were in Nice, Thursday a day trip to Cannes, but in both we just hit the beach.
There were a couple of highlights that seemed to stand out, one of which was our fitness session in Nice. After consuming much food over the past 2 months and topping it all off with KFC during the day we all were feeling a bit fat. As such we took it upon ourselves to go do our own bit of exercise. Aidan, being Aidan headed for the Gym, Zac and Gav decided to join him, Steve went for a run and Arryn of course did some work on his eyelids, with a whole lot of sleep.
I would never have thought sand would be a highlight of our trip but after not having it for quite a while, upon reaching Cannes it was amazing to see. Finally after weeks, yes weeks, of not hitting a decent beach and feeling the soft white sand in between our toes, we were back in heaven.
Cannes itself was pretty cool as we were back amongst the rich and famous. Walking past all the exclusive shops I'm sure every girl would love to go in, we felt a tiny bit special knowing that famous people might have once possibly considered going into these stores. Whilst we didn't end up seeing anyone famous, one thing we did do was go up on the red carpet of the Palais de Festivals, where the Cannes film festival is held. To all you Entourage fans, the only reason we actually went was to go where Vinnie Chase, E, Turtle and Johnny Drama have been.
A final highlight of the past couple of days was drinks last night. Whilst we didn't drink much, well only 1 beer, it was the type of beer we drank that made the moment. Duff, yes duff beer, one for me, one for you, kill for one drop, legendary ice cold Duff beer. And it wasn't bad either. That moment made the night, we couldn't believe that we had found the beer we had all craved to drink since we saw Homer down one after another.
Now, one hour into our trip, which after the decision to take all the way to Toulouse has become 7 hours long, we sit and wait. We have run into 3 friends we met in Monte Carlo, who are very entertaining and I hope will amuse us for the rest of the way. That's all for now.
