The drive from Guarda again took us through some lovely scenary, this time a glacial plateau mainland Portugal's highest mountain range. Our jourey to Guarda took us through the mountains between Spain and Portugal. We took a route down small winding roads which took us through tiny little villages and came across Mirander del Castana the most amazing village in Spain we have ever seen. We stayed at the Rear of a 4* hotel in Salamanca that had full camping facilities. The local bus stopped at the hotel and we caught it for the 20 min ride into the city. We spent the first night camping on a small site and when we got up next morning it was 0 degrees and there were patches of old snow on the ground. We finally disembarked at Bilbao at 10.30 a.m. 26 hours late and very very glad to be on terra firma even though it felt like Spain was bobbing about for a few hours. We were glad to see sun and no pelting rain.
