16th - 17th - Phi Phi Island
We arrived to Phi Phi by ferry from Koh Lanta, after finding an accommodation bargain we hit the beach for the majority of the day. We finished the day off with some bloody cheap mojito's and massive amount of Thai cuisine for dinner at Papaya.
We spent most of the day on a snorkeling expedition in and around Ko Phi Phi Lay, we saw lots of fish, a few sea snakes, a shark and a turtle. We spent the afternoon relaxing on the beach before Greg went on a massive shopping spree and bought himself a new wardrobe. We grabbed another great dinner at Papaya, before relaxing with some drinks by the water.
18th- 19th - Travel
36hrs of straight travel, involving 1 ferry, 4 buses and two trains.
20th - 22nd - Chiang Mai
We spent our first day exploring the streets around old town, checked out some of the bigger and more famous temples (Wat in Thai) including Wat Phra Singh one of the bigger ones in Chaing Mai right at the end of our st; Wat Phan Tao a teak temple; and Wat Chiang Man the oldest temple in Chaing Mai. We all then spent the afternoon enjoying a massage. That night we headed down to the night bazaar market, where Greg & Elise had a spending spree on stuff for their new place.
We spent Saturday enjoying a Thai cooking class. We cooked many of the classic dishes including, pad thai, pad see ew, peneng curry, masaman curry, tom yum soup, cashew nut chicken and spring rolls. Whilst also learning a few new dishes including kao soi, papaya salad and tom saab. We spent the early evening relaxing over a cocktail after eating far too much food. We then headed out to the Saturday night markets, which was far more of a locals market, no cheap cheap dvds!
We spent Sunday walking around the water front and took in the local food markets. We then headed out that night to the famous Sunday markets, which have a nice blend of local food, with a lot of authentic Thai crafts.
