Our next stop after Lorne was Apollo Bay, which is a nice seaside resort, with plenty of good bars and eateries. After walking the length of the bay twice to compare menus, Ben decided the best place was the first place. We had an awsome meal in the Apollo Bay hotel followed by a huge slice of mars bar cake!!
We also heard on the news that Melbourne were having the worse storm in 100 years. We were very lucky to be a day in front of it!!
After leaving Apollo Bay in the morning we went to Peterborough via Cape Ottway national park, where we stopped at Ottway fly, which was a 50metre high suspended metal walkway running through the canopy of the trees in the rain forest. We were hoping to see some Koalas and rattle snakes but all we saw was some moss and fungus growing on the trees. It was a very entertaining drive through the cliffs to the forest. We past a sign saying not suitable for caravans, but decided to carry on....
Peterborough has nothing to report, given that the population was 174. It felt a bit like hill billy town. Kate was worried that she would wake up in the camper with some strange freak staring through the window!! The best bit was cooking up in the camp kitchen and retiring to the camper for a few beers.
After Peterborough we took a stab in the dark at stopping in Warnabool about 2hrs further round the coast. What a find!! It had 2 great beaches and a nice beach-side restaurant. Ben kept up his calorie in-take by polishing off a big plate of chocolate chip pancakes. After brunch we went for a swim in the surf, and wanted to hire surf boards but forgot it was a bank holiday. After catching a few more rays we set off on the road again to Mount Gambier. It is the main city between Melbourne and Adelaide. Other than a couple of site seeing attractions it was pretty disapointing. We did visit the Blue lake which is something pretty special. It is a huge lake in the centre of a volcanic crater. Also we saw the sunken garden which was nice. However the campsite was probably the best one we have stayed at so far. To be fair they have all been good apart from one, and they vary in price from $35- $50 a night, which is around 27-38 pounds.
We are now in Adelaide after a 5 hour drive. We stopped at a little town called Keith to use their road site BBQ, we bought some burgers in the butchers and had a little feast!! Kate and Cat played on the childrens tramline in the park.
