Day 48 - Saturday March 2, 2024, Thursday Island

Arrival 07:00 All Aboard 07:30 Departure 20:00

Another day another port cancelled. Insignia arrived at 07:00 but was in a stationary position. The winds were not as strong as Cooktown and the seas were calm.

However, it is not good when the captain comes over the intercom as its usually bad news unless its his daily noon update. Due to the position of the ship, the port authority and the reef pilot on board requested that Insignia drop her anchor 4.5 nautical miles from Thursday Island.

The strong current and the fact the tender ride into Thursday Island would be 1.5 hours there and back, the decision was made to cancel our port of call to Thursday Island.

The captain did suggest Oceania is trying to secure an overnight in Darwin. Let's hope this happens. Now two more sea days so Janice gets to improve her bridge skills.
