Day 103 Friday April 26,2024 Langkawi, Malaysia
Arrival: 7:00 All Aboard: 16:30 Departure: 17:00
What should we do today - well let's go on a tour with tonight's ship entertainer.
OK I will explain what happened. We decided on a beach day to chill out, so we asked the information person from Langkawi who was on the ship. She suggested we hire a taxi who would take us on a mangrove tour and then drop us at the beach.
This seemed like a good plan. A taxi outside the terminal would pick us up and take us to our destination. While walking to the taxi a young lady from the ship asked us how to get to the beach. Janice did not recognize her, but I did. She performed two days earlier on the ship and was scheduled to perform again this evening. Her name is Christine and although she was raised in the Philippines, she lives in London and sings classical music. She had received a well-deserved standing ovation from the passengers at her last performance. Later we found out she had only come on board the ship one day prior to her performance having travelled all the way from London.
The taxi arrived but the driver had limited English, so it was difficult to correspond with her. She was only a driver not a guide. We invited Christine to join us for the day.
We drove about 40 minutes to board a power boat for a one-hour mangrove tour after which the driver would take us to the beach.
Travelling through the mangroves was interesting with sightings of eagles and monkeys that inhabit the mangroves. At one point our guide/driver had the monkeys drinking out of a plastic water bottle.
Kilim River flows through the mangroves as we pass large limestone granite rock formations. Many other tours were on the river. We even saw our friends Karen and Tom who were on a viator tour.
Trying to find a beach proved to be difficult as was finding a restaurant. The best restaurant was closed for a private function. When we did find a beach, no locals were swimming due to the jellyfish in the water so we decided to call it a day.
Overall, I think our guest, Christine enjoyed herself. We had her safely back to the ship for her performance. She gave a big shout out to both of us during the performance thanking us for a wonderful day.
It is now on to our final stop in Malaysia, Phuket some 156 nautical miles away where we will spend 2 days.

Brenda Letain What fun hobnobbing with the talent! That would have been interesting getting to know Christine. I admire that you include others often as not everyone would. The monkeys are also so darned cute. Such characters!
