Day One Hundred Thirty-Nine - May 24
Today is our 36th wedding anniversary but I really have no incentive to explore without Janice. Janice tested positive for Covid last evening and will spend another five days in quarantine. It is so frustrating.
The blog will not be up to my standards however I will try to provide a synopsis of my visit.
Our ship arrived in Klaidpeda, Lithuania at 07:00 with a departure time of 16:00. It is the third largest city (population 149,00) behind Vilnius (580,000 - Capital) and Kaunas (289,000). It is the only seaport in the country so all goods arriving or departing by sea must use the port.
A nine-piece band welcomed us to the city. I do not think any cruise ships have been here over the last several years due to Covid.
The Olife Enrichment lecturer mentioned several places to see which I tried to find.
Outside of the Old Mill Hotel you will a black statue which I call the creature from the depths trying to leave the water by climbing onto the pier.
A Sailing Ship named Meridians is permanently docked in Klaipeda has now become a restaurant.
Overlooking the sailing ship, a chimney sweep perched on the house roof is looking down.
It was difficult to find souvenir shops to purchase our magnet but luckily, I found one. I was able to buy a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of wine which I hope will make Janice a little happier. We will just have to celebrate our anniversary later in the cruise.
We are now on our way to Riga, Latvia 250 nautical miles away.

Anne So sorry to hear poor Janice now has been tested positive and has to miss these last several ports of call. I’m sure she’s frustrated but hope she’s not feeling too ill! Happy anniversary you two! I know you’ll celebrate the day later when she’s feeling better! Give her a hug for me!!!
Gord and Heather Happy Anniversary To you both. So sorry to hear that you can't have a really good celebration today. It must be so frustrating for you both. I hope that Janice is is feeling better soon and that you do not come down with it. Get well and enjoy the rest of this cruise which has thrown you more than one curveball.!! You two are so resilient - Heather and I may have jumped overboard !!
Cathie Happy Anniversary to both you and Janice!! I’m glad you had your vaccines beforehand and Covid hasn’t made you really sick but I’m sorry that Janice caught it! Hugs from me!
