Day Seventy One - March 17
Happy St. Patrick's Day
Our arrival time in Roatan is 08:00.
When a ship sails into any port in the world and as a sign of respect they will fly the country's flag from the mainmast. While walking the deck, I noticed the harbour pilot leaving the ship and the Honduras flag being removed from the mainmast. Not a good thing.
The captain quickly made the announcement that due to expected strong winds in the afternoon our day in Roatan would be canceled. We would make our way to the next destination Santo Tomas, Guatemala some 147 nautical miles away arriving early Friday morning. Another bad sign is when the Captain comes on the loudspeaker at any other time than at noon with his daily update - is almost always bad news.
This is the second island missed in the Caribbean with Curacao being the first island on February 25. The safety of the passengers and the crew is the number one priority of the captain when weather conditions dictate the day.
With another sea day the cruise staff needed to make other arrangements for the passengers because alot of tours had been planned in Honduras.
The guest speaker moved his two daily talks up by three days to discuss the world of espionage. Very interesting topic in light of the present world events.
I spent a little time today completing the required registration prior to our stop in Bermuda where we will also require a negative Covid test. We are excited about going to Bermuda as it will be our first time back since our honeymoon a few years ago lol.
We received notice today that Tangier, Morocco has been replaced by Gilbratar (which is fine although we will be going there twice) due to the fact its maritime borders have not yet opened. Another change to the itinerary and more changes are definately expected before we sail to Europe so the mystery cruise continues.
On a lighter note, with today being St. Patrick's Day and Janice being partly Irish (44%), she decided to have an alcohol free day. Go figure!!!

Lynne Say hello to Gibraltar for me - I’d love to see what it’s like now. It’s 50 years since we lived there - how time flies.x
Cathie Really Janice? Alcohol free st Patrick’s day?!
Shirley Grosser Please explain to me how 44% Irish gets calculated? I was never a math maven, and this one is truly confounding! (Hopefully, I may be able to solve the sum….so I may send this off to you?)
Michael The weather has a mind of its own. As long as you are still enjoying yourselves. I didn’t know Janice had an Irish heritage, as do I, must be quite diluted to go alcohol free on St. Patrick’s day! Haha
Martin Yes, it was unusual to have a dry day on St. Patrick's Day
