Day Sixty Two - March 8
We arrived in Roseau, Dominica at 08:00 today. We were informed a few days prior that the island would only allow ship tours so that is what we did.
The island has a population of approximately 72,000 with Roseau being the capital and has a creole heritage. The current prime minister has been in office since 2004.
We chose Dominica Land and Sea Tour offered by the ship. Our first stop was experiencing the heat of the nearby volcano in the water. By just twisting your feet in the sand you could feel the intense heat and burning sensation of the lava beneath the surface. It was pretty cool!
Our second stop was the snorkeling part of the tour, You were required to walk over uneven stones before reaching our snorkeling guide who was waiting for us. It was a lot of trouble getting to the snorkelling site and unfortunately did not see as many fish as we had hoped. It's always funny to watch people walking backwards into the water with flippers on.
On our way back to the ship we stopped for refreshments at the Bois Cotlette Estates and were treated to some creole snacks - fried buns with cheese or tuna, local rum and the best part dark chololate to Janice's delight.
