The race was on!! After our tour from Uyuni we knew we had less than a week to get to Buenos Aires to meet Sheridan, Ashs brother. With our train tickets booked to leave at 3am Monday morning, we spent the Sunday buying a few last minute Alpaca bits and enjoying the last of the Carnival celebrations. We managed to get some sleep before making our way to the station and we had another pleasant journey down to Villazon, the border town to Argentina. We hadnt booked a bus yet as we were unsure as to what time we would arrive and it was a good job we didnt. It took nearly 4 hours to cross the border!! Luckily we had met a very friendly Bolivian guy who was taking his daughter to Cordoba to sart University and we manged a stilted converstation with him whilst queuing in the boiling heat to get our stamp. Finally we got through and a jumped in a taxi to the bus station, still unsure as to were we should go. After some frantic bus station action we decided to go to Cordoba with the Bolivians and grabbed some last minute food with them before boarding. They introduced us to our first Argentinian steak which was jsut divine, soooo much beter than Bolivian food. We also shared some pomelo, the local grapefruit drink which went down a treat. We liked Argentina already, Ash was grinning from ear to ear!!
It had been a while since we had done some long distance busing but surprisingly our 20 hour journey to Cordoba went reasonably well. No sick at least! We were so grateful for meeting the Bolivians as they escorted us to our hostel from the bus station and even gave us their number in case we would need any help. We really have met so many lovely people during this trip! Our time in Cordoba was only to be short as we need to arrive in Buenos Aries Friday morning ready for Shezs arrival Friday night. We had a lovely time wandering around the city taking in the sights and enjoying some good food. Our second day there was Ashs birthday and thankfully the rain stopped and the sun shined. After a lay in he opened his cards, enjoyed a lovely breakfast and then a lazy morning in the park before visiting the art museum. That evening we went for a drink with our room mates to celebrate the occassion and then enjoyed a BBQ at the hostel.
The hostel we stayed at made our time in Cordoba that much more enjoyable and our first impressions of Argentines were that they were very friendly and couldnt do enough to help. As we left for our overnight bus to Buenos Aires we were sad to leave but very excited about seeing Shez and the upcoming times we would share with him. Party time!!
