Day 158 Friday 12th February 2010
Stacey says
Up and out this morning to head for Queenstown. We passed through the Fox Glacier which is another town settled next to a Glacier, we stopped for a quick coffee and a handful of Fox Mints, before stopping at Lake Matheson, the 'Mirror Lake' famous for its reflections of the Southern Alps. We had Adrian as our on coach entertainment today, he was still drunk, and saved a seat next to himself for a girl to sit beside him who he didn't like, and just gave her as much abuse as possible before arriving to Lake Wanaka, where she was to stay and where the rest of us went off for some lunch. It seemed like a lovely sunny pretty town, but unfortunately we didn't have time to fit it into our schedule. Just before Queenstown we stopped at Kawarau River, where the is an option to do the 42m bungy., we just watched a few people throw themselves off the platform! Finally pulling into Queenstown, it seemed like a pretty lively place, with lots of shops, markets, bars and restaurants, with a good vibe to it. The scenery from our hostel kitchen window was crazy, was like it was a painting on the wall. We had planned to meet a few of the coach people to meet at World Bar for Queenstown 'teapot' drink, a cocktail served upto you in teapots with shot glasses. We then moved onto Wharf Bar, and also met our friends from Wellington, the DJ started playing some real old school songs, so we all just started dancing like looneys to songs like Ghostbusters, Kung Fu fighting, Rum DMC and the like!

Today we managed to have a bit of a sleep in, absolutely perfect after a few days rushing around squeezing in as much as possible. Our hostel is really nice with a post card worthy view of the lake with the mountains in the background, so we pretty much chilled out for majority of the day making full use of the doing nothing time! We really like Queenstown as there is lots to do if you like the activities or little restaurants and coffee shops overlooking the lake if you wanted to just chill out!!
