Around the world with Annie
Top of the day to you all......
Yes, I'm still very much alive and I'm now in Costa Rica after travelling through Honduras and Nicaragua. Sorry, if I have caused some of you worry by not up-dating, the internet is not very accessible these days.
I'm having such a wonderful time. My travels seem to get better as I venture on. My smile is now a permanent fixture. I love life with a great passion even when it rains, which is almost everyday now. Its the rain season, here in central americia, but I still see the sun every day and the rain is still warm.
Here's an up-date of Honduras.
It's a beautiful country that has the most rugged geography in the region. A land of jagged mountains, dense jungle and crystalline waters. It has the 2nd largest reef in the world and is a mecca for divers.
COPAN - Its a small community hidden in the deep mountain valley. The accommodation was good and the food was even better, lots of beans and rice. We visited the ancient Mayan ruins. Our guide was very passionate about its history. Despite the ruins not being as tall as Tikal, the Copan ruins had many heiroglyphic inscriptions, see pictures...
ROATAN - Paradise island. I loved Roatan for its food, snockling, dancing and fun. It has powder soft beaches, crytalline waters and wonderful sealife. I saw a beautiful yellow spotted eel, turtles and sting-rays. Roatan was the first place I felt like I was on holiday and not travelling. The hotel was beautiful, my room was spacious, I could swing lots of cats....I also had air-con and a tv, not that I watched any of it. We also danced the nights away. None of us have heard western music for some time. I loved the island's laid back atmosphere, it had a carribean influence.
COMAYAGUA - Hmmmm. Thankgod we only stayed there one night. It was tradition town, with nice square etc, however at night it turned to quite a scary place. Armed guards were at the banks, which is normal to see, but I was suprised to see armed guards at the supermarket and internet cafes. Little shop keepers would only serve you behind the bars of the shop. None of us, walked alone, in fact we all walked in groups of 4 or more.
Our journey into Nicaragua was very funny. Our bus broke down so we hitched a ride from a small pick-up. 13 of us, bags and all, crammed in. By the time we got to the border, we looked like refugees. Our guide is an expert at commanding traffic at a flip of a coin.
I will write some more soon.
Lots of Love as always,
Annie
