We were meant to be flying back home today, but we made a VERY last minute decision to see Western Australia instead!
Our flight was with Jetstar and departed at 15:50, it was the longest flight we had, had within Australia, taking 3 3/4 hours in total.
I was very nervous when we set off and we had a very rocky landing as we were experiencing some turbulence. The turbulence caused me to panic; I said to Ian "That's it! I'm going on a boat home!" Ian replied later with some calming words "The pilots a trainee".
When we exited the plane, we immediately felt the dry hot air and of course the ground, which I was pleased about.
We collected our bags quite quickly and easily enough, but had one problem, because we had only booked our hotel the day before, we didn't have a clue where to go!
We found a taxi and asked the driver how much it would cost and it was quite reasonable, so we jumped in and off we went to Guildford!
After about 10 minutes of driving we arrived at our hotel 'Rose & Crown'. Our room was huge! It looked new, had brick walls on show inside so was quite stylish and a pool outside our patio doors! :)
Later we went for a wander around Guildford for some food, but just our luck! We chose a bank holiday weekend to visit so only a select few restaurants and shops were open ranging from pricy to non coeliac friendly. So we decided to catch a train to the city instead.
Perth city was about a 1/2 hour journey, but there was a bit of entertainment for us on the way, as we watched a ticket officer disputing with a drunken Scot regarding him having no ticket and another man receiving a fine.
When exploring the city we came across other ticket officers wondering the streets, they seemed to have too many of them! The city reminded me very much of Derby and Nottingham, grey, filled with high street shops and the occasional 'chav', only it was a lot warmer.
We were still not having much luck finding many places open, so we settled for some snacks from a convenience store and MacDonald's or Maccas as the Aussies call it :) Let's hope our diet improves the next day! Australia day! lol
