On December 3rd, Lorina and I finally went on our first major trip to Edinburgh. It rained, as always  (did we really expect anything else???). This trip like all our trips didn't start as it was supposed to. At 7am, we wanted to be at the bus station and we even arrived there before because the busses are usually not on time here. That was the theory. We should have watched the local news because then we would have noticed that the bus drivers were on strike that day. Unfortunately, we were only told this by a friendly old man after having waited 20 minutes in the cold. So we had to walk to the train station in Aberdeen. We were pleasantly surprised that the trains were very clean and smelled of vanilla. After a 2.5hour trip we finally reached Edinburgh. We decided on taking a bus tour through the city. The first stop was Edinburgh Castle where we were spending a few hours. Other highlights of our tour were: the university, the café in which J. K. Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter, the parliament, and Scottish residence of the Royal Family? In the evening, we visited some of Edinburgh's Christmas markets, the French and the German one among others. It really felt like the whole German population of Scotland assembled at Edinburgh. To conclude the day we ate at a delicious Mexican restaurant (apparently the best in Edinburgh). Edinburgh is a very beautiful city and we definitely will return!!!
