In the interest of avoiding international rates, I put all of my Canada notes into one blog, just in case.
There wasn't much to note on the drive up except all of the beautiful scenery.Unfortunately, the windows in the RV are tinted and of course, you have glare issues but I could have easily filled up an entire card with pictures. As we were approaching the border, mom passes on to us to make sure everyone is buckled up.When we finally got to the border, we got out our passports and waited for the border patrol to come in. I got up to let him in and sat back down.I did not rebuckle. He was asking us questions about our travel and when he got to a break, Angela blurts out, "Daddy, I told you to put your seatbelt on!"Seriously? Did my child just try to rat me out to border patrol?Later, she told me she was worried and did not want me to go to jail.
Also, while he was there, he asked about our passports and I held out my hand with both passports to him. Angela snatched hers out of my hand and then held her hand up to give him his own passport. He laughed.Maybe that's why I didn't end up in jail.
At the campsite, Angela had "The Crew" which included her, Zach, Michael, and Juliana. It was good that she had so many options for playing. They kept each other busy. The second day was spent golfing.I didn't do too bad, I shot a 109 which is on the good side for me on a course I've never played before.Good times watching the guys I was golfing with chasing gophers with their golf cart.Heh heh heh.
On Saturday, we went to La Ronde. It's French Six Flags.I got my one big kid ride in, The Goliath. It was only an hour and forty five minute wait. After that, Angela went on three more rides. When we went on the Tea Cups, it was a very similar experience to the Tea Cups at Disney World. It was her goal to be on the least spinning tea cup in the history of ever.It was funny to see all of these cups spinning around and we might have made two circles, maybe three with ours. And the panicked look on her face if the cup started to turn at all was kind of funny too.
But Angela wanted to share the good times with everyone. There is a mini pirate boat that swings back and forth but also rotates. It is in the kid's area and is designed to go slow.Angela in all of her bravery said that she would be fine but started to panic as we boarded.I was actually surprised she was making such a big deal about it so to be comforting, I said, "If you get nervous, just scream."So as the ride started and the gentle breeze that gets generated from this thing barely started, she began screaming bloody murder.I couldn't help myself.I was laughing hysterically. But I was not the only one. The adults on the other side of the boat were laughing along with the people in the front of the line and the waiting area where they were waiting for their smaller children to finish the ride. When we were done, she said she was brave. We agreed to disagree.
That night, we saw Australia's presentation for the International Fireworks Festival. It was stunning, amazing, and all those other words that I can't think of that aren't good enough.I realized quickly that still photos weren't going to cut it so I took a bunch of video clips instead.I only put 5 or so up for all to see but I have about 20.Used up all the space on my card.I was so impressed with the coordination between the music and fireworks. We sat by the sub woofer which was up too loud but I didn't notice that much as I was completely captured by what was going on in front of me.
On Sunday, we went to a mass at Notre Dame.It was quite the beautiful building.I have been to the original one in Paris. The one in Montreal was designed to be a smaller scale replica of the original and I could definitely see it.One of the main differences pointed out to me was that the statues and handiwork that you were looking was carved out of wood. The original has the majority of everything in stone. Both buildings including the artwork inside were absolutely gorgeous.Angela got border quickly, obviously, and she whispered to me, "I can't understand them," as the mass was performed in French. An odd moment for us was when Angela yawned which I'm ok with but this one was audible.I had a vision of nuns hunting us down.
After mass, we spent the next few hours at the old port of Montreal. We watched a street performer for about 30 minutes that had some pretty neat tricks to perform including a bed of nails and a ladder of swords.Angela was pretty impressed, but not enough to volunteer when he wanted to demonstrate how sharp the swords were.Angela also added another first to her list of new things she's been trying on this trip: a chocolate mint gelato crepe with strawberries, bananas, and chocolate sauce.Ok, there isn't much "new" here but the combination and the name "crepe" was new to her.So now she likes crepes but I don't think she realizes they don't always come decked out with a sundae.
