5th Nov, Well, had another day in Kathmandu and went along seeing the sites. Saw the Monkey Palace, where you climb 365 steps to get to the top and loads of monkeys just roaming about - no sighn of King Louis though! Then went to the world heritage site and got to see a 'living godess' who is picked out after tests at the age of about 4 then only does it till she reaches puberty. Then she is sent back to live a normal life! After that we went to a lake where they burn the dead bodies, then they toss them into the lake - one side for the rich and the other side for the poor. You have kids looking for jewellery and gold teeth in the lake, not the highlight of my trip but worth seeing.
7th Nov: Went to Pokhara, it's set around a massive lake and the mountains, so got up at 4.30 am to go to the top of the mountain to see the sun rise over the Himalayas. Another long journey to the top but great views. After that, we went canoeing on the lake - over to the other side with a Canadian girl called Nancy and climbed the other side to get to a temple. Got right to the top and the Maoists tried to charge us a tourist tax of a hundred rupees (about a pound each). I haggled and got us 2 for 1!
9th Nov: Went to Chitwan - it's the jungle on the Indian border. Went for a boat ride in the long canoes, then went swimming with elephants before going on a safari on the back of an elephant and saw a couple of rhinos.
I've been enjoying Everest Beer to drink (5.7%) and wild boar to eat!
Heading back to Dehli tomorrow to start my Indian leg.
