We were picked up at 5:15am from our hostel by the 'red army' as our porters were known to us (for their bright red head to toe outfits although we would later discover that the other porters refer to them as the firemen). Well the first thing about Cusco is the altitude. Cusco sits 3300m above sea level - thats 10,800 foot, comparable to some of the skydives in New Zealand. On the plane from Lima the hills weren't that far down in fact you could see them poking through some of the clouds we were flying over and landing was very brief as there wasn't too much ground to lower through. After bundling ourselves into the first taxi to come down the street we began a conversation on what airport we were actually going to - Buenos Aires has two - an international airport (Ezeiza) and a domestic airport (called aeropark) the airport name on our ticket (Pistarini) matched niether however, figuring we were going to Lima we went with the international airport. Thankfully it was the correct airport, for whatever reason known only to Aerolineas Argentina...
