After a hellish 10 hour ride in various minibuses we arrived at Krabi Town, little did we know that we were still quite a way from where we needed to be to get the longboat to Hat Ton Sai. After getting suitably ripped off in a taxi (our excuse is tiredness!!) we got to Ao Ngan beach which reminded us of a Spanish seaside resort, very touristy, we left as soon as we could get on a longboat. When we arrived in Hat Ton Sai we immediately fell in love with the place, it was so chilled out and relaxed (despite the massive climbing community which seemed very insular so we left them to their own devices!).We found a lovely little bungalow 5 minutes from the beach and set about relaxing after the long journey, making sure we found a nice bar to have a beer in too!
Hat Ton Sai feels like a small island, it is however on a peninsular, but because of the massive limestone cliffs that surround it the only way to get there is by boat. It had everything we needed without being incredibly touristy, a perfect place to chill out. The first day was spent sunbathing on the beach and swimming in the sea - Sarah was in heaven! The next day we took a walk to the next set of beaches on the peninsular Rai Ley East and West as well as the gorgeous beach at Phranang. On our way to Phranang beach we climbed to a lookout that gave a great view over most of the peninsular, beautiful!
We relaxed after our days efforts with a few G&T's on our bungalow balcony. One good thing about the bus ride was that I remembered to grab a huge bottle of gin from the duty free at 7 am to try to save some costs at a later date! After a few gins we were starving and headed to an Indian that had been recommended - it is run by a bloke from The Wirral, the food was great, I have not had an onion bhaji for ages. Sarah really enjoyed it too, she's getting to really enjoy some of the milder spicy food!!In the Indian we bumped into Lucy and Karl, who we had left in Malaysia! So there was quite a group of us, with an aussie couple Jessie and Luke we had met and two English lads Matt and Adam.
We all headed to a reggae festival, which was being held over two nights on the beach. After the free beers we were given we got on the buckets! A bucket consists of whiskey, ice, coke and redbull (although the redbull over here is more like medicine and really does keep you awake all night!) After dancing the night away we decided at about 5 am it was time for bed!
The next afternoon after a quick bit to eat we went sea kayaking. The coast here is beautiful loads of steep limestone cliffs, islands and caves to explore, especially by kayak. The water is beautiful colours, just like you see on tourism brochures and incredibly clear, we saw loads of fish too! After a couple of hours in the heat, hung over and with the rocking of the sea Sarah began to feel a bit unwell so we headed back for a quiet night in!
Our last day again was spent on the beach, we haven't got too many beach days left as Sarah keeps telling me - she desperately wants a tan that will last till we get home!Although I am having to be nice to her at the moment as she has a bit of a stomach bug, which hopefully will go soon!
Today we head off on a bus to the west coast of Thailand and then a night ferry to the island of Koh Pha-Ngan, infamous for its raves at full moon although unfortunately we miss full moon by 2 weeks or so, no doubt there will be a party somewhere and some beaches to laze on too!
Keep in touch,
Love A&S xxx
