Amy's Travels 2006
Well avid readers I really don't know where to begin as we have done so much this past week and haven't had internet access as been on a remote tropical island (hard life eh?)
So first of all we went to Teman Negara from Cameron Highlands and the journey there is similar to how I could imagine the journey to hell (if you are unfortunate to ever have to go there)! Bascially a chicken had more seat priority than we did, with vegetables coming a close second. Rhia, Tasha and I shared a smelly hot seat for 4 hours on the jungle line train which ran through many remote villages and on it was families, including children, babies, grandmas etc who had all been doing their anual shop for anything you could imagine and then they crammed it all on our (economy class) train... economy class means just that... I don't think I can fully describe the smell/ heat/ cramped space but when you think it was 4 hours for about 80p, you cannot compain too much. Well this wasn't the end of the hell trip!
We got to Teman Negara (in the middle of the rainforest) and it was school half term and all the accomodation was taken despite being assured it wouldn't be a problem so we were tired/ smelly and just wanted a place to stay so ended up staying at the resort there which is about 100 times the price of the normal places, but we met some very rich hungarian guy and he was nice. Teman Negara was expensive but while there we went to an Organ Asli village (aborigine people) and shot a blowpipe to kill monkeys with although we didn't shoot monkeys, we shot a board and rhia shot hers and it disappeared and people were worries she had sucked it up!! haha!! But that was cool and we went on a night safari by land rover and saw some wild boar but nothing else although got hit in the head a lot by palm trees and we also did a canopy walk about 30 m in the air, basicaly just a rope bridge through the rainforest canopy, which was awesome althought the look of terror on rhia and tasha's face was so worth it!!
So we left there and were glad to see the back of the rainforest by that point and were heading for the remote tropical islands of the perhenthian islands with the hope for Rhia and I to complete our open water scuba diving certificates.
The perhenthian islands are so remote and beautiful that I cannot being to urge any one to visit... so quiet and untouched.. and the people there are so friendly. We stayed on the big islands and dive school was attached to where we stayed which meant we had free accomodation while we did the course!!!!!!!! SOO GOOOD!!! SO CHEAP!!
So first problem we met was that rhia is asthmatic and she didn't have clearance from a doctor to dive so she has to go to phuket in thailand to see a specialist so it was just me diving on my own.
HOWEVER!!! I felt a cold coming on the first day we got there and you shouldn't dive with a cold but I thought I would shake it off... any way I did my first 2 dives, first was great I saw so many cool fish like clown fish and stuff... then second dive.. ears feeling a bit oogy and nose bleed when I got to the surface... and third dive... my ears were quite painful going down under water and I couldn't equalize so had to ascend so so slowly and it hurt and they were blocked :( and I had quite a big nose bleed at the surface so could not complete the course although passed all the theory so am finishing it when I am better in thailand. i have just regained the use of my ears again... wasn't nice though (don't worry mum i'm fine!!) So we just sunbathed, played cards, rhia and tasha saw a big snake and it ate a little lizard and tasha has seriously burnt her back and its peeling... poor thing!!
So today we arrived in thailand, and just been on 4 hour bus journey to Hat Yei where we are going to go on to Phuket so rhia can see a dive doctor and where we can go and do some more snorkelling and beaching!! Its so cool out here and we are having a great time. We haven't been drinking as malaysia is a muslim country so beer is rare and expensive however on crossing the border a beautiful sight I beheld, of a massive fridge full of cold, cheap beer so happy days... we're off out to a cheesy rock bar with some cool english people we met on the bus here.
