With heavy hearts we finally jumped back on the vomit comet to return to the mainland. After a fairly unpleasant boat ride we had to grab a cab to the bus station. We found one & explained to the driver we needed to rush as we had to catch a bus fairly soon which he obviously interpreted as "please faff about outside for a bit so we miss our bus" & then finally got us moving. When we arrived at our destination he tried to charge us double as apparently we hadn't waited until he was full. We refused, he yelled, we left, he yelled again! Our post Utila blues had well & truly kicked in. Missing our bus, we arrived in San Pedro too late for the last connection so had no choice but to spend the night. The city is supposed to be pretty sketchy and we discovered that it was in fact very sketchy! After a long days travelling with no food we decided to go in search of some sustanance but only got as far as a block each side of our hotel before we scrapped that idea & settled down to a dinner of crisps & a slice of very dubious cake in the Honduran Salford!
Shortly after the break of dawn, and with memories of our lovely evening in San Pedro forever in our hearts, we jumped on a bus to Copan, a small town near the Guatamalan border famous for it's Mayan ruins. We could tell it was a fairly sleepy town when we arrived & were greeted by 6 or 7 hostel workers yelling about prices, offers & generally undercutting each other. We stuck with our original choice & ended up in a room big enough for about 6 people including a shower & (pause for dramatic effect).........a bath! Score! The town itself was beautiful all small stores & cobbled streets. We had a little explore & then stumbled upon Twisted Tanya's, a highly recommended bar/restaurant, & as it was happy hour we decided to stay! We then discovered their 3 course backpacker special menu & promptly fell in love. Home made soup's, fresh pasta & carrot cake & all for $7, bargain. The food & the place were amazing so full & content we retired to our suite.
Short and sweet, the next morning we got a bus to the Honduran-Guatamalan border, to meet our good friends Marije & Julio in Guatamala City. Long day of travel ahead... bring it on!
