So really this blog is what it says on the tin, well the location name :-)! It certainly was a lazy beach!
After the elephant and jungle madness in Saen Monorom we were both looking forward to a bit of chill time at what was apparently one of the the best beaches in Cambodia. It took us all day to get two 6 hour minivans, via Phnom Penh to Sihanouksville on the South coast. I have to admit I am surprised we survived the second leg of the journey as I think the driver either had a death wish or though he was Lewis Hamilton and overtook everything at a ridiculous speed.
We spent one evening in the seedy town which is Sihanouksville eating disappointing italian, drinking too much wine and beer and sleeping in another grotty hotel! The next day we took a morning speed ferry to Koh Rong Saloem island. Once there two guys came with a tractor to take us and our bags to the other side of the island where there is a small resort of huts called 'Lazy Beach'. It was absolutely stunning, the sea was blue, the sun was shinning and sand literally squeeked between your toes :-)! The only thing missing were palm trees. We had a bungalow right on the beach which had everything you could need .... Except air conditioning and a fan. It was time to put the sleeping in a wet t-shirt theory to the test (thanks Bente!). It even had 2 giant geckos living in the bathroom to eat the Mosquitos haha.
To be honest there isn't too much to tell you about what we did at Lazy beach. We went snorkelling twice and saw some fantastic tropical fish and some absolutely gigantic ones! We swam in the sea at night and there were hundreds of fosphorecents (no idea how to spell that) every time you moved in the water. They lit up like fairy dust all around you and it was truly a magical experience. Unfortunately it is impossible to get a photo or a video of them. We ate, slept and drank quite a lot and did some strenuous hammock swinging :-).
Unfortunately on the second day I was eaten alive by sand flies whilst sunbathing blissfully unaware so I am now dealing with about 100 of the most itchy bites I have ever had haha. That'll teach me for wanting to be brown.
Today we left the island and are on our way to Phnom Penh before taking the bus to Siem Riep tomorrow. We could have taken a night bus but we are not in a mega hurry and we have both had enough of night transport possibly for the rest of our lives (excluding the flight home obviously).
I will blog again sooner!! Sorry for slacking recently.
