Although we’d booked 2 nights in Margaret River, due to our extra stay in Bunbury we only had 1 night to stay in the hostel in town, which was a massive TEN BED room (it was also really expensive!) We went into the room to pop our stuff on the bed before leaving in the car to go to Mammoth Cave (one of 4 nearby caves that you can visit, which are massive and have amazing natural stalactites inside). David was feeling a bit better so we spent a bit of time walking around (up and down as well!) the cave following the audio tour which took us into the deeper parts of the cave. It explained some of the different animal remains that had been found here, from native animals that no longer existed, as well as seeing the natural formations in the cave. It was well worth a visit, we were sad that we didn’t have time to do more than one cave! We headed back to rest and have dinner, before heading out to a pub we’d heard good things about, the Settler’s Tavern, which was only a short walk from our hostel. We were pleased to hear that there was going to be live music on, even if it was going to be a cover act! The first cover act ‘John Lennon’, who me and David named John Le-none, as although he was pretty good, he sang none of the famous songs! He literally sang one song we knew, and even chose random, lesser known Beatles songs to sing. So the crowd was a bit lacklustre due to him singing obscure songs, but the second act which was ‘Bob Marley’, was much better.
After a great night in the pub we headed back, a bit nervous for our night on the squeaky top of a bunk bed (they had no ladders either!? Nightmare!) When we arrived at our extremely messy room (there were lots of long termers in there so they’d settled in) we were pleased to find that most of the inhabitants had gone away for the night to camp, so there were only going to be 5 of us in there, which is better than 10! However, our happiness was short lived when one of the people from the room came back and turned out the be the weirdest roommate of all time! Seriously, he had the loudest headphones, asked us al, strange questions about philosophy (?!), sat up in the night to declare ‘I’m scared’!!! It was the strangest night we’ve ever spent in a hostel, even the other 2 room members seemed annoyed with the strange man. We eventually got to sleep despite the dying crocodile like snoring from this roommate, and woke up just ready to get out of there! Overall, the worst hostel we’ve probably ever stayed in, so luckily we didn’t end up staying for 2 nights!
Thankfully, we gathered our tired selves and then headed back on the road to Albany.
