Just a quick update of teh past few (busy) days. I left the Isreali guy I Curitiba which was a small relief as his brain seemed to be slowly dying from the abuse he was putting it through. From Curitiba I headed toward the coast and caught a boat from the tinmy town of Pontal du Sul to Ihla do Mel (island of flour) apparently named by the German man who first visited the island and saw the women making flour from wheat. Personally I didnt see anyone making flour but that doesn´t mean its not a true story.
The island has no roads and only paths so the only way to get around is by walking or cycling. The island actually resenbles two islands joined by a very thin sand spit. the northern part which is considerably larger than the southern part is a nature reserve and is used solely for research purposes. The southern part has a few beaches and surfing and not much else.
Met some cool peeps here including a scottish girl who is also travelling alone, and french guy and a german guy both studying in Rio and two friends from Holland. Had a few drinks on the beach the first day and went out for a bit of an explore the second day. Unfortunately it rained and we got rather wetbut managed to visit the lighthouse and walk around the majority of the southern island. Views were amazing but would have been even better if the sun was shining.
Am currently in Foz do Iguacu which has very famous waterfalls and has a border with argentina into which I will tavel in the next few days. Am quite looking forward to leaving Brazil as it is relatively expensive here and Argentina offers the prospect of walking, rafting and of Patagonia.
Keep in touch!
