Hey!!
Just in Airlie beach at the moment, but weve been busy since we set off to Cairns on the 7th sept! First day we chilled out by the lagoon, as its stinger season your not allowed to swim in the sea because of the jelly fish, the box jellyfish in particular can kill you within 2 mins, so they have made a man made beach and swimming pool. Our secomd day we had booked to scubadive and snorkell the great barrier reef - scubadiving is scary it took us all a little time to get used to breathing underwater, we all enjoyed it and it was a great experience, i unfortunatly couldnt equalise the pressure in my ears so couldnt go as deep as everyone else but it was very cool. we also saw some amazing fish just snorkelling - pictures will be up soon!!!
After cairns we jumped on the Oz experience bus and travelled south to Mission beach where we booked to go extreme white water rafting!!! this was so much fun, we were all full of adrenaline and nerves the whole day, rafting down grade 5 rapids. we lost ali on one scary rapid, but she was pulled in safely with only a few cuts and bruises! we got to jump off massive rocks into the river and even swim through the rapids - which was something none of us liked, we all swallowed lots of water which tasted like poo! not great! but apart from tht one of the best activities we've done so far!!!
next day came the cyclone which hit cairns, turential rain, thankfully we left mission beach and headed to townsville where we got the boat to magnetic island just 20 mins away. This had to be the most terrified i have ever been, me and charlotte were grabbing onto ali for dear life whilst she laughed nervously. the waves and wind were crashing into the boat, people were screaming and crying. Thankfully we got there salfely, only to realise the whole island was flooded so for 3 nights we couldnt do anything but play cards - we didnt get to see much of the island at all.
We got on the first ferry off the island on the 3rd day and was on our way through flooded roads to airlie beach. we had booked a sailing trip around the whitsundays islands. we set off on sunday 18th, and just arrived back today - 3 days without a shower!! This was amazing!!! we sailed all day, snorkelled and charlotte and ali scubadived again, lots more fish and coral. we also stopped off at probably THE most beautiful beach in the world, whitehaven, the sand is so fine it squeeks under your feet. its actual paradise!! after here we went snorkelling again, and saw loads of turtles bobbing in and out of the water, and to make the day even more special as we were sailing back to base ourselves for the night a school of dolphins swam past the boat!! amazing ending to an already amazing day!
so thts where we're up to now. we leave airlie beach tomorrow to spend the night on a cattle ranch - strange i know but should be a laugh! and i really need to go get showered!!
update soon with our crazy adventures
