We got to Kyoto by bullet train then arrived at our hostel, surprisingly not getting lost (although the hostel is right outside the subway station so that could be why). We went to the supermarket for dinner and I had a traditional Japanese pot noodle as usual. The next day there was a festival on in Kyoto so we went to watch the parade for that - lots of traditionally dressed Japanese people - which was cool. We then went to the Manga Museum and spent ages watching inanimate objecton a TV screen be made into animals and move about. It was very entertaining. We then went to a shrine with lots and lots of orange arches along a path. Me and Alice managed to get lost and end up in a random village, but never mind. The next day we went to Nara. This is the old capital of Japan, and there is a park there with loads of tame deer. We also saw the biggest wooden building in the world - Japan seems to be the land of superlatives!
After getting absolutely soaked in Nara the next day we went to Knkauji temple which is golden and the best example of a zen garden in the world. I didnt really get the zen garden - obviously im not spiritually aware enough, or something.
On our last night in Kyoto we stayed in a Ryoken, whcih was quite wierd at first but actually really peaceful. And you had to sit on the floor for dinner, which is always a bonus!
