Day nine involved shearing some of the sheep that were in the pen from the night before when we got them in, some needed shearing due to the fact that some had flies, we also used rings for the lambs that either had tails or nuts. Once we had cleaned ourselves up Hugh took Mum and I to Barley Stacks which is a local vineyard just a couple of miles down the road from Maitland, whilst we were there Mum tried all the white wines that was produced their from the grapes that they harvest from one of their paddocks, and I decided to try all of them plus the Red Wines they have to offer which are produced from their other paddock, which Hugh, Mum and I explored with both Leon & Gina explaining about how they feather the vines and how they require straw to provide mulsh to retain the water and not dry up like it would with the soil. As we were the only people there we got to see how all the labelling and packaging was done also including the filling up of the bottle which is done by an automated machine, we were also allowed to label a few of the bottles as well with assistance from Gina. Afterwards Gina's fellow employee Leon asked us how we opened a bottle of wine so all of us said unscrew the top lid, but Leon said that we were all wrong and showed us how to do it properly so I have learnt something new to show people when behind the bar. After we had drunk all the wine they could give us we headed down to Port Victoria and explored that area before moving on to Balgowan and then heading home.
