My SCUBA instructor held onto the door while the boat was rocking badly and he swung with it and it tore off my whole big toe nail. And this was our first day out on the reef! But I still managed to do most of the dives. They tapped it up pretty good for me and then cut my flipper so my toe wouldn't rub against it while I kicked.
