We arrived at the hostel at 11am Tuesday, but couldn't check in for an hour. It was called India House hostel, set in traditional New Orleans French style houses it was one of the more quirky hostels we'd stayed in. The first room we checked into was called the Voodoo room, we weren't in there long as we weren't very keen on a padlock holding the doors together- not the safest place to leave our stuff! We moved to a double room in the house next door - with a normal locking (and looking) room!! Once we had put our stuff down we went to the tram stop to get the tram into the main centre of New Orleans. We got off at the furthest stop on the main tram street. This was close to DuPont road, leading to the French quarter. From here we walked to the edge of the french quarter then up to bourbon street. this was where we stopped for lunch. We each had staple new orleans lunches, Harry had a gator po-boy and I had Gumbo! We wondered around all the streets in and out of small unusual shops. We went down to the river front and walked along to a famous big cafe - Cafe Du Monde. This was in the main French quarter area where all the buildings had a traditional French look about them. We took lots of pictures and I bought some chocolate from a shop called the evans candy shop! It was getting late so we bought a pizza from the supermarket and some pre-drinks to have before hitting the town! When back at the hostel we got ready, ate the pizza while chatting to some new guys we had just met. After a few drinks we got back on the tram to bourbon street. We had an amazing night out, bourbon street was unlike any other place we'd been out. The street was filled with people, every place down the street was a bar and you could take your drinks between bars to watch all the different musicians playing. Each bar had a live act and most had balconies you could stand on to view the whole way down the street. We first opted to buy a refillable fishbowl, but while we were there a really nice (and drunk) local paid the bartender for our drinks. We walked up and down the street stopping to listen to any good acts we found. There were so many great bars, my favourite was one with a band playing, it was a fun place to have a dance! During the night we also had a Hand Granade drink which is famous in New Orleans for being strong - it was quite sweet but tasted nice. We stayed out quite late and collected quite a few mardigras necklaces! We had a piece of pizza as a snack before getting the last tram back to the hostel. The next morning we had to leave really early by bus to Houston. We were both really hungover so just slept on the bus. When we got to Houston we had to wait and change to a greyhound bus to go to San Antonio.
