Well the North Island is almost over. 6 Weeks later, a car and backpack down, as well as some epic days..... we are cruising (or rather ferrying) over to the south island. Gisborne was the last main port of call before we headed to Wellington. Gisborne was my favorite city in the North Island. A pretty mellow stylish surf town surrounded by vineyards, blue seas, white beaches and cornish country side. While there we hit up the Rere Rockslide. A natural rock slide which is about 30m long. We rocked up with a 15 pound body board. Spent all morning there as it was a bit of a laugh, and free. We met some local boys who told us about some other spots around the area. We went to a waterfall tht you could go behind and then jump through and another little area fall of fresh water pools and waterfall slides. Wanui beach was the main surfing beach in gisborne and was similiar to beaches in France such as Lacanau and Hossegar. We stayed at a hostel called the flying nun backpackers. The worst hostel going. The women who ran it was a mega b****. But after a bit of howard and ashley charm she was vergin towards a normal human being. After a couple of days in Gissy we headed down to the Mahia Peninsula. We heard that there was a wild dolphin that befriended human beings over the last year. We went to the beach where 'Moko the Dophin' was paddling about. After about 10 mins of looking out to sea we spotted him head butting a sea buoy. We paddled out on our surfboards slightly abbrehensive as we had only seen a fin (could be anything) and it was wild. Moko surprised us from behind by playfully headbutting How off his baord. How shat himself which was hillarious. For about 15 minutes the dolphin swam around and under us. He/she was friendly and let us touch it, feel its snouts and ride its fin. A quality and memorable time. From Mahia we went to Napier where we slept in a public carpark. It felt a bit dodgy as there was quite alot of activity at one in the morning. After deciding we might be in a doggin spot we drove to a local neighbour hood and parked on the street. The locals must of though we were a bit strange In the morning we dorve five hours to Wellington. The hostel we are styaing at is pretty cool. free internet and breakfast, wow! Wellington seems like quite a small but very hilly, windy city. Theres a uni in town so we are gonna hit the town tonight to see whats going down. Tomorrow we are getting the ferry to the south island. Got two weeks to get our scenary/tourist fix then fly off to Western Oz from Christchurch to get some serious wave action. Good times allround. Im now getting evils from people waiting to use the free internet so better shoot!
