Hi all... It's 4:31pm and I'm on the metro back to my hostel. Today I've been to Sentosa Island for the day and have had a pretty chilled day exploring. I woke up around 9am and after a shower enjoyed the free breakfast. This is the ultimate freebie in a hostel! I set off and decided to get the bus as far as I could today so I could see where I was going. That's the only negative thing about Metro systems... It's all underground! I got off and walked through to Marina Bay via a part of the F1 track and some rather old, yet grand, looking buildings. I enjoyed looking at the magnificent Bay Sands Hotel again from across the water. I then decided to head for Sentosa and having brought my shorts with me today I was ready for the beach. After getting on what was clearly the wrong bus, and without a map, I ended up back at the Gardens by the Bay. I walked through to the metro retracing my footsteps of the day before. Eventually I made it to Vivo Mall and the Sentosa Island Cable Car. I purchased my day ticket and took the first cable car back inland to Faber Peak. At the top I could see the city on one side and Sentosa Island on the other. It was worth the little detour! I then got back on the cable car over to Sentosa. Sentosa is literally an island covered in money making. You can do anything and everything on the island but I wasn't there for any of it. I took the second Cable Car to Siloso Beach and then walked the length of the island paddling along the way. I weighed up all the places for lunch as I walked before getting the beach shuttle back to my favourite. I had a quarter chicken and a Desperados for $23.... Not too bad!
As I was sat at the beach enjoying the rest of my beer I managed to FaceTime Mum, Dad, Michelle and Nick who are all in Buxon on a motor homing weekend. To be honest it was like a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... Two old couples sat up in bed chatting away... 'Grandpa Jo and Grandma Josephine' ...
I also managed to FaceTime Tara, who had just arrived in Koh Samui and also seems to be having a great time, despite ruining a hand bag!
Sorry Grandma I did try to ring you but you didn't answer. You must have been on Twitter or Snapchat at the time instead!
After finishing my lunch I caught another cable car and monorail around Sentosa and enjoyed walking down the paths with music playing out of the bushes, just like Disneyland!
I've just got on the final metro home and I have to say this whole metro system is very very efficient, quite pleasant and a great way of getting around! I have definitely had my money's worth!
I'm off back to the hostel to have a rest, recharge some batteries and get ready for a Night Safari at the zoo tonight. I'll tell you about that later, Bye for now!
Good Evening all...
It's 7:58pm and I've just arrived at Singapore Zoo to start my night safari! I have also just managed my second 'blag' of my trip so things are great!
I had a good rest and freshen up at the hostel before setting out to find the Zoo. I was told it would take about 1 hour and it actually took me 1 hour and 45 mins! The Zoo is nowhere near the city centre and I took the recommend route to get here... 2 metros and one 30 min bus ride!
Anyway... The whole world seems to have got here ok so let's see what it's all about! As I stand waiting for the tram tour, the place is buzzing and I'm in the priority queue! I didn't quite fancy the massive wait in the queue for the tram with everyone else so after a 5 min chat with a member of staff about what my options were he decided I could join the priority tram... that honestly wasn't my plan! A family from India in front of me have just taken a selfie of them all... I'm sure they will laugh when the see I am grinning in the back of it :)
So that was the night safari tram... I saw lots of different animals including Elephants, Rhino, Buffalo, Lion and Tiger. The Rhino was by far the most impressive! The tram ride gave my feet a good rest which was definitely needed after walking miles and miles today.
I am now in the queue for the Creatures of the Night show... It's hot, sticky and there are loads of kids around. It better be good!
Hello! It's 11:16pm and I'm just about to have tea... I'm in 'Little India' and two chaps, who were actually teachers, have shown me this little restaurant. There is no way in hell I would choose this place but it all looks clean and good! I'm the only albino in here.... And I'm starving!
To be honest the show at the zoo was very disappointing. For the money I paid and time it took I don't think I would recommend the Night Safari to anyone. However, as I was sat waiting for the show to start....
Ok, I just paused writing as my food came. It's actually very nice! Things in here are bizarre!! In 5 mins while I've been sat here a guy and his girlfriend have walked in tattooed head to toe! He has all sorts on him.. All over his face too! Also, to go with that, 3 ladies have just walked in with extremely deep voices and big feet! Oh I do love travelling!!
Anyway... As I was sat waiting for the show I spotted Gill, Paula and Rose from Dubai enter the amphitheatre. I knew they were in Singapore and it was good to see them and hear about what they had been up to. I also shared a taxi with them back to the city which was great as it meant I didn't have to do the monster return journey on the public transport!
I've just managed to find my way back to the hostel and used my tracker to help. Everyday I record where I have been but from time to time it comes in useful too and helps to point you in the right direction even without a map. I simply could see where I started the track and walked in that direction!
Time for bed now. Going to take it easy tomorrow so I fancy a lie in :) Might even watch a Love Island if I can!!
Night all x
