Waking up feeling like s*** and with a swollen face wasn't ideal. It would have been if it was a long night bus like 24 hours where I could just sleep and chillax but no it was only a 4 hour bus ride to the Copacabana and then we had a tour to an Island, it wasn't what I needed, but I had to get on with it.
Our bus picked us up from the hostel at around 7am, we were joined on the bus by three Aussie chicks, a English couple a German girl and a Dutch girl who was a doppelganger for a Swedish chick Alex I met on the East Coast of Australia. Due to my illness my conversation was non-existent as I slept almost all of the rickety and bumpy way to the Copacabana. We checked into the hotel recommended to us by our guide who looked like Sayid from Lost. I thought the hotel would be pricey as it was on the lake front and looked fairly classy, however it was only fifty boliviano's each, less than a fiver! The rooms were ace too Earl and I both had a double bed each, a private shower, and a sensational view onto the lake. It was for the perfect spot for me to rest up and try and get better, however Sayid had other ideas he wanted us back downstairs in seven minutes so he could show us around and the vital areas. Luckily for me it didn't last too long, and I went into the nearest restaurant to try and get some nutrition the best I could get was an Avocado sarnie and a fresh orange, it also semt forever to come out cutting down on my sleeping time. I did get back to the hotel an hour before we had to leave for our tour to the Isla Del Sol. I woke up even groggier and I was tempted to give the tour a miss and recuperate in bed feeling sorry for myself but the offer of a free beer was too strong. So I dragged myself together and made my way to the meeting point. The rest of the group must have thought I was a bit of a weirdo as I was pretty much quiet the whole journey to the island. On the island I wasn't much better lagging behind on the small trek to the top and then back down and then similarly on the journey back. The Island was nice and offered some great views and interesting facts but it was all lost on me with the way I was feeling.
I'd like to tell you I got better after the trip but I didn't I was pretty much bed ridden for the rest of the night. Earl managed to pick me up from Ibruefren and at 3am I woke up feeling awesome, I thought I had beat it but I woke up again at six and this time the symptoms were back - a pounding head ache, feeling hot and cold rapidly, sweats and when I finally got up at 10am I realised my eye was massively swollen. The entire group met up at 11am to continue our journey to Cusco me hiding my face with my sunglasses. Hopefully in Peru my face would go back to normal and I would feel better so until next time stay safe and take care.
