The World Tour
London was a mere stopover on our way to Germany but we packed a lot in to 4 days.
After about 16 hours of travelling we arrived in London and went straight to the lovely Kath´s house in Twickenham where we were staying for 2 nights. Unfortunately we´d got back too late and Kath was out but that was ok as we didn´t get much sleep on the plane and crashed (even though it was freezing so a bit harder to get to sleep!).
The next morning we raced out the door and into Oxford St on a mission: find warm clothes. Our 10 weeks of travelling in South America mainly consisted of wearing t-shirts and thongs so we were very unprepared! Luckily for us that unlike the strong American dollar, the pound is quite weak so we picked up some warm clothes at great prices. I know London´s reputation for stores and clothing is great, but it was better than expected and everything was very easy to find. We then went into Camden to have lunch with my friend Jacq who is pregnant and looked amazing, having lunch in a small Moroccan place in the market. We then whizzed back to Oxford St to continue our shopping before Michael met work colleagues in Soho for Friday night drinks and I accompanied Kath back to her house to prepare for the planned Christmas girls night which was such fun and I got to acquaint myself with great food again after Argentina´s relatively boring menus.
Saturday was another frantic day with a quick breakfast with Laura, Kath and Claire before we rushed to Tottenham Court Road to meet with Madeleine who has just returned from her travels in Australia, New Zealand, India and Thailand. It was great to see her. In 8 months we´ve caught up with her in Tasmania, Adelaide, Melbourne and London which is quite bizaare but great. By the afternoon we were stuffed so after some more shopping we defied what everyone told us to do (go to the theatre!) and went to the plain old movies in Leicester Square instead which was fun for a dreary night. It was great for the movie not to have Spanish subtitles on it too! We went back to Laura´s apartment in Finsbury Park for an earlyish night to relax with her which was nice.
Sunday it was up AGAIN for a bit more shopping as somehow Michael had managed to buy the wrong size shoes so after a nice English breakfast (so good, can´t get that in Argentina, just ham and cheese croissants!) we did that and then had a quick look at the sights (Thames River, St Pauls etc) before heading off to Laura´s boyfriend Steve´s house just a few stops away. A relaxing Sunday afternoon was had and it is just what we needed after all the travel. Laura cooked a delicious sausage casserole and we sat around drinking wine with Laura, Steve and Steve´s housemate Tom until it was time to go into Southbank Centre to see a Scottish comedian Jerry Sadowitz. He was a very offensive comedian but luckily that is my sense of humour so I loved it!
All too soon it was 4.15am on Monday morning and our alarm was going off telling us to get out of bed and Laura drove us to Heathrow which was very appreciated! A short one and a half hour flight and we were in our next stop, Berlin....
