Awake at 7:30 this morning, I figure I'll try again to get out the blogs on the Internet and find it's working great. I load all information to the TravelPod website and send out a batch of entries. Mom gets up and we finally head for breakfast after 9am. There's a lecture this morning at 10am on "The 10 Best Cruises for your Bucket List". We listen to that one from Lucy followed by another presentation by Melvyn Foster titled "Heroines of the Seven Seas". Both were interesting.
It's noon and we both head to the library to hang out for awhile. Mom reads her book and checks out my blog pictures, giving them the nod of approval. I went on the free web sites offered by Holland America, the New York Times and, of course, the Holland America cruise website. You can keep up on the news or book a cruise with no internet charges.
One thing we have found on this cruise is that everyone on this ship has cruised everywhere in the world a bunch of times. These people would put John Murray to shame. One old lady wears a shirt that says "31 World Cruises and Still Counting - 2013". Remember that each of those cruises is over 100 days. She actually lives on this ship. Another guy got on in Seattle and will remain on board for 7 months. The lady we ate dinner with tonight from Belgium is on for 105 days. For most, this South Pacific cruise has been repeated at least 3 and as many as 7 times that we know of. Many have taken most every cruise offered multiple times including cruises offered by other lines. While most of those individuals are in their 70s and 80s, a few are younger than us. These people don't fool around with one week trips. It's months at a time. One couple booked 8 back to back cruises 20 days each, all the same cruise. Armed with tales from our measly seven cruise vacations, we're no match for them and at dinner, our experiences we offer are taken out by comments such as, "Oh dear, we've been there many times. We own a home in St Martin too but with Carnival in Rio and our African Safari next month, we're just too busy". I can only respond with, "Well, we're going to an A's game when we get back". That'll show 'em.
I don't know where these people get all this money. They sure don't spend anything on the ship or even in port. Maybe it's because they've been here here already. Mostly they want to go to Walmart. I don't get it. Travel to the South Pacific and catch a cab to Walmart?
Tonight, for dinner, I have the swordfish and Mom had yellow fin sole with wild rice. Tonight's fellow diners were fine. As I mentioned, we met Diana from Belgium, the 105 day lady, who was very nice. Later, we went to the doo wop show with the Alley Cats. A great performance again. We had another "Bright Star" event tonight during the performance. When someone goes down with some medical problem, they announce over the loudspeaker, "Bright Star, Bright Star" followed by a room number or location. There's been five aboard ship so far this trip.
Tomorrow it's Tisa's Barefoot Bar & Tour in Pago Pago, Samoa. We'll have to wait to see what that's all about.
