Day 12 3rd June
I'm currently sat in an internet cafe in Karen Town. I arrived yesterday after an exhausting plane journey. It wasn't so much the journey, but the amount of times they insisted on waking you up. I knew there was a stop off half way at Khartoum, but what this also meant was two lots of food, dinner and then breakfast in the space of seven hours starting at one in the morning.
Anyway I got to the airport and my transfer rep wasn't there. So after haggleing the price I eventually got a taxi to where I'm now staying. In staying in a dorm room that reminds me of a shed, but at six pound a night I can't really complain. It's a bed. The food is very good. Last night I ordered the chicken kiev, which came with chips and veg. It was so yummy- buttery garlic chicken and sweet brown chips.
The place I'm staying at is called Karen Camp and is located on the outskirts of Nairobi. At first I thought I was the only guest as the only people that seemed to be there were the staff and three, rather on the heavy side, dogs. However as the sun began to set it became apparent that a party was there. Apparently there's been some overlanding races and last night was the climax of the event.
Weirdly I've also bumped into another Aussie couple Dean and Janah who have just finished a trip in Egypt with Oasis too. We spent last night comparing stories. The thing is I do actually remember seeing their truck parked up in Aswan. Odd how things turn out.
Anyway today determined to write this up I've ended up at an internet cafe, but not before going and seeing some baby elephants with Dean and Janah. The elephants were sooo cute and very playful. The rolled around in the mud, jumped on each other and nudged along a football with their trunks (that sounds a bit circus, but it wasn't like that). The youngest was three months old and tiny. I even got to pat one, which was surprisingly not what I was expecting. Their skin is like dry leather with bristles.
Anyway tomorrow I'm just taking it easy again as my next trip starts the day after. I'll probably just come back here again to add to the Egypt entry, soo much happened. Catch you later Xxx
Day 13 4th
It's very eciting my tour group has arrived. I didn't get chance to introduce myself last night but I didn't mind as I got to spend a little more time with Dean and Janah, they've left for safari this morning so it was nice just to chill with them before they went. And anyways I got to meet Kate, Jenny and Jason my tour leader, the trainee and my driver this morning. Everyone seems really nice. I can't wait for tomorrow.
Oh randomly was sick this morning, no idea why, really. I woke up to the realisation that I may have had a visitor in the middle of the night as their was a few mysterious breadcrumbs and a small dropping near my food bag. Turns out I was right, as soon as I lifted up the bag I saw the hole. Anyway after pulling off a fair amount of the mouse(?) bread I ate the rest for breakie. Then again it could have been the last of my Egyptian apples, I thought I'd washed it throughly. Also think mousey has stolen my soap, ironically the vanish has vanished.
