Basically the Whitsundays are 72 islands that are all national park and on the end of the great barrier reef. We had to meet our group at the marina at 9am on Wed out side a cafe. It imediately looked alot more promising than our Fraser Island group with lots of people our age. So Angus waters was quite fun. On our first day we hired a surf board (me and our frined Jess did anyway), just to get to the beach to find no surf what so ever, so that wasnt too much fun. We then had a quiet night in watching saw4, eewww. The next day we decided to do the 1770 tour, it was really funny, it was just a local guy that took us around the tiny town, pointing out the very minor sights, but for just $8 I suposse we cant complain. Day 1 We got up at 6am and had to watch a video about the island as it is a legal requirement as it is a world heratige site. It was mainly about not feeding dingos (wild dogs), go to the toilet in pairs and how to drive on sand etc. Lots of it went in as you can imagine at 6.30. So after Byron we went to Surfers Paradise, basically the miami of Australia, with a nice beach but lots of high rise buildings, not what I expected from the name. (see the pic). All we really did here was go to the beach, sunbathe and drink (as seems to be a trend in almost everywhere we go). So we are still in Byron Bay, it is nice hear a real surfer town. We went in the sea today and yesterday and the waves are insaine, they are about 5ft high and break like a rip curl wave. Its mad and so powerful. A couple of us rented body boards and surf boards but its so rough that none of us are good enough and we had a couple of minor cuts and bruises so I think I will wait till we get somewhere a little quieter to try again.
