Well they say that Koh Pha Ngan is the party island, so i certainly made the most of that excuse! On Saturday the 2nd we got up early-ish and walked around to a guest house called Same-same. It's recommended in the lonely planet (my absolute bible) and was much closer closer to the beach (and bars) than Hill Top (where we were before) So we checked in there and then headed to the beach. It was quite nice, probably as nice as Koh Lanta, other than the odd beer bottle and fag butt lying around. After a bit of a sunbathe we walked around Haad Rin which is the beach we were on, its the main party beach. Its really different from where we have stayed before. Really much more built up. Theres tons of shops and restaurants, most of the bars are on the beach though. Met a couple of guys we had met in the taxi on the way down, on the beach that night, but had an early one as my stomach was still a little iffy!
Sunday 3rd Had a long day on the beach (mainly so i could avoid spending anything in the shops) and managed to somehow burn my sunburn. (i am exagerating a little, im actually fairly tanned. Just don't look at the photos of me and Tess as she has olive skin and i look albino next to her. Had a really good night out, we had dinner at this restaurant where they show friends all the tine!! Fantastic! The one opposite does too though, so it can get a little confusing. Now if there was only a bar that showed the OC all the time, THAT would be perfect! We went to the beach and met ALex, John and James, the guys from before. Tess went home early, but we stayed out. I manged to stumble in at about 5 without waking Tess up, which i think is bloody impressive, seeing as i manage to wake my entire household up normally. Woke up on Monday feeling a little less than fabulous, where we had unfortunately agreed to go on this ''Cactus Reggae Boat tour'', with JOhn Alex and James. The boat tour was actually really good, the waves weren't so much though. We went snorkelling (me still on shark watch) in this amazing spot and then had lunch on a really quiet beach, before stopping to snorkel again later. My head and stomach were suffering a little still on the way back, and the smell from the free joints they were handing out did NOT help. (I suppose thats what made it Reggae!) Was still not feeling fantastic, so after meeting everyone from the boat trip at cactus, i had a fairly early night.
Tuesday 5th Spent a couple of hours on the beach today after walking round the shops. Its so hard not to buy anything as everything seems so cheap. Compared to Chiang Mai prices its actually really expensive, but compared to the UK! Only on the beach a few hours as i get really bored. That may explain the lack of tan. My Ipod is useless too as i filled it before i was leaving the house, so theres only about 40 songs on it, half of which i dont even really like. Had a nice greek dinner, bit weird eating falafels in Thailand, but it was nice all the same, then headed to this horrific Cobra show. I literally had to be dragged there, but we'd spent everynight on the beach so thought it might be a bit of a change. Well, we got there and this guy was holding this huge python, and doing something very unpleasant to its head. So i sat outside completely freaked out, looking over my shoulder every 10 seconds to make sure one hadnt escaped. Then they obviosly brought out the Cobras. I could hear everyone screaming, and Tess kept going inside to watch. I literally peeked an eye around the corner of the door and saw half a snake which was enough for me, so I just stayed sat outside pretending to enjoy my too strong lemon daquiri. At one point we were all sat outside, as, in Tess's words "They were being cruel to the cobra's" and nobody wanted to watch... I really couldn't give a monkeys if they were killing the cobra's, i just wanted to leave. Anyway, being of a rather nervous disposition anyway, at this point i was so jittery, thinking the snakes were going to escape or something, and this Thai barmaid stuck her head out of the window next to me suddenly, bad move, I screamed so loudly and jumped about a foot in the air. This poor thai women nearly shat herself with fright. Everybody else was pissing themselves laughing. I think she saw the funny side too eventually. After far too long we headed down to the beach where we ended up having a wicked night. I met these really fantastic english girls called sam katie and siobhan, who have an almost identical travel plan to mine. So hopefully we're going to meet in either NZ and hire a campervan (mum, this does not mean i will ever come camping with you still) or in La. They are planning to hire a car and drive up the West coast of California so im going to meet them there! How cool is that! We finished off the night by eating cheesy chips (Just like a night in Trashford!!) This time i unfortunately rudley woke Tess up and she was less than pleased.
Wednesday 6th Unfortunately had to leave Koh Pha Ngan and Thailand today!! Can't believe its gone so quickly, and wish i had another few weeks here. Recovered for most of thwe morning, then after saying goodbye to Tess and the rest of the gang, caught the ferry at half 4, and then an overnight bus to bangkok. There was a bit of a panic, as the woman in the travel agency was like 'you must book day before, ees chinese new year, vay beesy'.... Well luckily there were a few places left on the government bus, otherwise there would have been a bit of a situation... The bus was absolutely freezing, i thought my nose was going to fall off, and i didnt have my jumper with me as it was in the bottom of the bus in my rucksack, so a questionable blanket provided by the bus was all i had for the night. Arrived in Bangkok early thursday morning, after very little sleep and a little confusion with the taxi (whats new) got to the airport to wait for my flight at half past 1.
