We spent Christmas at Rainbow beach. On Christmas Eve we got up early to have a go at surfing it is not as easy as it looks. Aaron managed to stand on the board a few times and managed to ride a wave in 4 times which was pretty impressive. I favoured the knee approach. We both spent most of our time drowning which is not nice when your board and other peoples hit you while you are under making it harder to surface. We surfered or attemptedto for three hours it is absolutely knackering no wonder you don't see too many fat surfers. For the rest of Christmas eve we drank with our irish roomies and as midnight approached we tried to involve everyone in some Christmas carols. Most people were not impressed and felt they were too cool for school. We carried on regardless we needed some Christmas spirit as there is not very much of it in Australia.
Christmas morning I woke Aaron up early to head to church we thought this would help us get more in the mood for Christmas. We learnt how we should have sung the carols last night. For breakfast we had burgers and chips (very christmassie). We then slept for a few hours only after we opened our pressies. Aaron managed to impress again by choosing a ring that I saw in Bali. Christmas dinner was a cold buffet, Aaron was a bit put out that the best thing about it was the warm veggie burger. All the crackers had the same joke which was pretty lame (Why did the jelly baby go to school? Because he wanted to be a smartie). We then went down to the beach to have a few more drinks it was meant to be sunny but in fact it was cold and windy and we had to take shelter under a paviolion type thing. We ended the night dragging one of the Irish guys back to bed after hiding his alcohol. He didn't stay there long though and instead favoured the hard floor outside the bar.
Next we moved onto Brisbane for a couple of nights. We suceeded in staying off the alcohol we thought our livers may need a break. The hostel had its own cinema room which kept un entertained in the evening. During the day we explored what there is of Brisbane. We walked along Brisbane river to the Botanical gardens and across to South Bank to look at the art Gallery. I wanted to play in the kids section in the Andy Warhol part but it was very expensive to get in so instead we played with the silver balls in the main gallery.
At the moment we are in surfers it is basically a party town with lots of expensive clubs. On the way to Surfers Aaron got in a big plastic ball full of water to Zorb down a hill. He didn't manage to stand up which he blames on the girl in the ball with him. On our first night in /surferswe stayedin the hostel and had drinks the secong night we stayed in and had none. I don't feel we really tried to get into the party spirit. New Years is coming up so we need to save our pennies. We did eventually get some nice sunny weather to lay around near the beach but today it feels extremely windy. There has been threat of a cyclone further back along the coast at Fraser Island so not much surprise.
Today we head to Byron Bay for New Years. Speak to you next year and everyone have a brilliant night.
