Well,
We arrived into Sydney to the announcement by the pilot of 'not a very nice day, quite cloudy and rainy' but this didn't dampen our spirits! We were back to western civilisation, and after so much time in a country where everyone constantly bothers you for money/your time it was quite a nice feeling! Caught the train to Kings Cross where were were staying for a week, its sydneys red light district - strip joints every second shop front and scantily clad hideous prostitutes!
On our first real day we ended up going the the Oz vs Sri Lanka ODI cricket match. It was fun even though theguards were like the gestapo with what seemed like a 'no fun' policy, especially when compared to boozy matches back at home! The weather was cloudy and pretty grim, but in the 10 mins or so when the clouds broke I managed to get burnt knees and face - do not underestimate the poser of the australian sun!! That night we wound up going out for our first soiree with alcohol for almost a month to a place calleed the World Bar, where cocktails bizarrely come in teapots!! Needless to say ti went straight to our heads.
Sydney ha so much to offer that we quickly realised a week would not be enough to squeeze all the sights and activities in, not to mention being able to actually afford anything. Virtually everything here seem,s to cost a fair bit more than back at home, with the exception of surfer style clothing (not that we bought much...) We're convinced that there is some kind of obesity tax on junk food as a) its really expensive and b) everyone is thin!
On the second day we went to Darling Harbour, which is full of restaurants, bars and shops and also the Sydney Aquarium which we also went to. The place is amazing and seems to go on forever, with all kinds of marine life from seals to sharks and a huge barrier reef display.
Beach life plays a big part of Sydney residents lives! After a mammouth 5 hour trek (including plenty of gettin-lost time) We made it to Bondi, jsut as it was getting cold!! To be fair, it wasn't that impressive, Manly beach was by far better!
What with changing changing weather forecasts and rain up north, we decided to get a flight to Adelaide in search of the sun...tbc!!
